Latex Love

Thierry Mugler Menswear AW11...

... YES

Tomorrow is a always a New day..

Brighton's the new Oslo anyway didn't you know..

So yea, no exciting Oslo news or pics. Me and my bunch of Oslolites didn't make the hop across the north sea due to complete lack of concentration in Gatwick's departure lounch. The weekend was not lost however because we made the decision to spend it in Brighton.

I've never really been to Brighton to just have a look around, but the North Lanes is definitely a great hotspot for cheap eats and vintage shops. Was tempted by the idea of getting a piercing but am happy I didn't now and spent my money on an array of clothing, rekindling my love for the old vintage bargains.

Freezin' and Breezin'

Photographer Jim Mangan's new book Winter's Children is a collection of images taken from what looks to be a very good day out naked snowboarding! I'm loving the attire consisting of only Native American Blankets. Love the colours, the patterns and of course the nakedness.

Who knows what will happen in Oslo now I have this for inspiration... Norway here we come!

An Englishman in New York

In one of the smaller rooms in the National Portrait Gallery's, Room 38a to be precise. Is a collection of photographic portraits by Jason Bell. All the work is tied together by the fact that the people are all of english heritage but now make their living/lives in the Big Apple. I liked the photographs but found what was said in the accompanying quotes more interesting. It's an interesting international relationship.

"I am torn between the appeal of that American hopefulenss and a kind of English realism" - Zoe Heller, Writer

There seems to be a definite love for New York by many of us Brits, me included. Especially with the whole NYLON bond, it feels like us Londoner's and New Yorker's are all from the same basket whilst being in awe of and respecting each other simultaneously.

I am hoping to get my ticket for summer break there soon. As long as the sales hold out till I have the money..

Polpetto.. Dean Streets little slice of Italian Heaven..

As a Chirstmas present to the Ma and Pa I took them to Polpetto. An Italian restaurant situated above the French House pub in Soho. The food is served in a similiar manor tapas, ordering multiple dishes per head were everyone gets a taste of each. The restuarant itself is tiny, with a capacity of roughly 15-18 tables it gets very busy, very quickly. The whole atmosphere makes you feel like you've stumbled across a hidden gem. Which in Polpetto's case you actually have.

To enter the restaurant you have to go up the narrow staircase from the pub below. Entering the restaurant you are greeted by the staff, all of whom are very friendly and geniune who then show you to your seat. If your lucky enough to get one that is. The food was great, especially the seafood dishes, and the pancotta for dessert was big hit with and Mooty.. haha

Polpetto- My new favourite restaurant, even if it is a bit pricey. Going again on the 19th!

First thing is first...

Until I sort myself with decent film camera I'm loving the Hipstamatic app for iPhone. I recently got my iPhone 4 which has a flash. The lack of was the only down side to the app before. It didn't take well to any sort of dim lighting but now I've gone all snap happy take photos here, there and everywhere.

For example...

Check out it this car advertising a polish dentists which is always parked on the Hanger Lane Gyratory. It's tiny and with a photo of the dentist plastered on the side with thumbs up this definitely deserves a photo.

Expect to be seeing lots of square framed 'old but new looking' photography coming up!

"My mind got bigger than my body did"

Salvation Mountain by Leonard Knight

I am very interested in the work of 'outsider artists', the fact that they are untrained and not bound by 'the rules' we are taught to stick to, or bend, or break in schools. It is creating for the sake of creating. An example of outsider art that I am particularly drawn to is Salvation Mountain in the California desert. Leonard Knight, the artist, intended to make an eight foot shrine to God and Love back in 1985. Since then he hasn't stopped.

I'm not religious but find it interesting that Knight has dedicated his life to what he says is spreading the message of God and that he has created something that he has been continuously adding to for 25 years.

Jonas Bendiksen Photography

I am in love with the photography of Jonas Bendiksen. Last year his exhibition came to Pitshanger Museum where I stumbled across his stuff. 'Satellites' is a collection of his work from when he traveled round Russia. The context of his work focuses on documenting culture, real life, however I love the photos because they have a sense of surreality to them. To me he is documenting the magic of reality.

Treated my self too much this christmas..

With no intention of buying new clothes I've ended up treating myself to whole new outfit plus. Money is running very low at the moment however I have to somehow be prespred to fork out for two large expenditures.. replacing my iphone and then OSLO..

Very excited for Oslo even it does mean duty free bottle of vod and a hell-a-lot of cold!

2010 in one word... 'growth'... maybe?

2010: I'd say 'growth' is the word of the year. In many ways I feel that I have grown, through love, learning, mistakes, etc.. I'm sitting here feeling reflective on the things that I would do all over again and the things that I definitely wouldn't (i.e the New Years scenario)...

My new years, like I'm sure many of yours, was eventful and not what I had planned. Great pre-drinks held by Anna and Amy. With an array of cocktails and canopies to rival any posh do. Bar the use of jam jars as glasses.. good idea I say, cheap and recyclying... 2 great count downs, with the latter ending up in fireworks coutesy of the neighbours. And finally on to D Town (Dalston) to have boogie at two places. Alibi being one, where a lovely gal Melissa works who treated me to couple of free drinks. All went to plan so far... Those last few drinks tipped me over the edge and ended up alone, indcredibly drunk somewhere in Hackney with no phone, and little idea as to where I even was. After the 4 hour bus(too risky to take the tube in my condition)/walk/(nap! in the street)/bus/taxi/tube/bus journey, I am finally starting to feel back to a sober/not hungover state. Great way to start the New Year. No regrets, last big lesson of the 2010. Never drink on the meds.
