Salvation Mountain by Leonard Knight
I am very interested in the work of 'outsider artists', the fact that they are untrained and not bound by 'the rules' we are taught to stick to, or bend, or break in schools. It is creating for the sake of creating. An example of outsider art that I am particularly drawn to is Salvation Mountain in the California desert. Leonard Knight, the artist, intended to make an eight foot shrine to God and Love back in 1985. Since then he hasn't stopped.
I'm not religious but find it interesting that Knight has dedicated his life to what he says is spreading the message of God and that he has created something that he has been continuously adding to for 25 years.
